Long-Term Outlook

One of Palm Bay Utilities Department's goals is to expand the municipal

water distribution system to all areas of the City so that all residents may have access to clean, safe, reliable drinking water.

Water TowerThis long-term planning and design process is driven by the results of a Water Demand Study and factors such as funding availability and interest in connecting to the water system.

In 2006, the Palm Bay Utilities Department commissioned a third party to conduct its first Water Demand Survey.  Recently, in October 2010, the Utilities Department requested that this survey be updated to reflect the City's current economic condition and demographic changes. Property owners in areas where city water is not currently available were invited to participate in an online survey to provide feedback. The results of this survey will assist in establishing a priority for the Department's future infrastructure improvement projects.

As the results of the survey are finalized, the Utilities Engineering Division continues to design water distribution line extension projects for all areas of the city. Having plans for these areas completed and permitted allows staff to also seek funding for such projects.  Many times in order to receive funding for infrastructure improvement projects, plans must be "shovel-ready".

The Utilities Department actively seeks funding for these projects through grant opportunities, low-interest loans and special assessment projects.
