The alarm ordinance was amended and enacted by the City Council.
It amends the Code of Ordinances and will be effective October 1,
Since the year 2000, when we had over 6,000 responses to false alarm activations, the City of Palm Bay has been actively engaged in a program dedicated to the reduction of false alarms. We have been very successful in our efforts since then by reducing false alarms each year while the number of alarm systems continues to grow. This pattern continued until the 2011-2012 alarm year when we saw a slight up-ticking of false alarm calls. When it was followed by another small increase for 2012-2013, the city decided to take action by adopting a new Alarm Ordinance in April 2013.
The new ordinance addresses the false alarm problem through a program of permit registration for all alarm systems even if they are not monitored, fines for excessive false alarms, and alarm awareness and education. It affects all alarm users, both residential and commercial.
