News Release - Firefighters Pose for Charity Calendar

Fourteen of Palm Bay’s “Hottest” firefighters are now featured on one of Brevard County’s “Hottest” radio stations in a partnership designed to draw attention to fire safety education and the children of the Palm Bay Police Athletic League. 107.1 FM WA1A radio has joined the Palm Bay Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 2446 to promote the 2008 Hometown Heroes Calendar. Snapshots from each featured month are now posted on the radio station’s web site at www.wa1a.com with an online poll where participants can vote for their favorite month. “This is a chance for a little interaction before the official calendar premier,” said Jim Bliss, Vice President for IAFF Local 2446. “Anything we can do to draw attention to the cause is a good thing and we hope people will come out and support us.”

The Palm Bay Professional Firefighters 2008 Calendar will premier on October 5th at a special event hosted by Space Coast Harley-Davidson, The Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce, WA1A Radio and the Palm Bay Police Athletic League. The event runs from 5-9 p.m. and along with the firefighters will feature the Battle of the Bands, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, food, drinks and entertainment. The money raised from the event and from the sale of the calendar will support Palm Bay Fire Rescue’s fire safety education fund and the programs of the Palm Bay Police Athletic league which are designed to improve the quality of life for children and encourage positive life choices.
